Why you should be watching The Haunting of Hill House this Halloween
I just finished watching The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix, and it has changed the way I think about what a scary film should be like.
If you haven’t seen it yet, here are six reasons why you definitely should get on Netflix and give it a watch.
1. It’s one of the best scary TV-shows on Netflix

It’s spooky season, which means everyone is tirelessly searching Netflix for decent horror films. The real horror is the distinct lack of good ones. Save yourself the effort. You’ve already seen Hush. Plus, this is a series, so you have 10 whole episodes to watch! That’s 10 hours of procrastination material. You’re welcome. Okay, onto actual reasons why the show is amazing.
2. It’s scarily good

So far, its IMDb rating is a 9.0. Apparently, that’s the highest rated Netflix original show ever! That’s ranked above Stranger Things, The Crown, House of Cards…
3. The director, Mike Flanagan, hides ghosts in the background of loads of the scenes

This is clever, as it not only makes it fun to watch with friends (you could literally compete to see who will spot the most), but it draws your eyes away from the main action, so when something scary happens you’re not expecting it.
4. The set design is gorgeous
Hill House itself is obviously super creepy, but it is beautiful, and so is every single one of the characters—except for the dead ones.
5. Stephen King called it a ‘masterpiece’

If you won’t listen to me, listen to him. He knows what he’s talking about.
6. The story isn’t just a cheap, predictable plot to maximize the number of jump scares
It’s actually a solid drama, about a family who are traumatised by their pasts and struggling to move on. Even if there were no ghosts, it’d still make a great TV show. Just don’t expect there to be a happy ending.
