What does love mean anyway?

Love has a different meaning for everyone.

For Sylvia Townsend Warner 'love is the only patriation, and without one's dear one sits in a dreary exile.' Love is intangible, unspeakable and ineffable. It can sweep you off your feet, rip your heart out within a second, change your identity and make you feel like you're sitting upside down on a roller coaster. Love has a different meaning for everyone, but the most common meaning is romantic love which is experienced by a couple. Have you ever fallen in love?  It catches and settles in us all. If you have not fallen in love don't be disheartened, it will come to you when the time is right. It's exciting, breathtaking, bewildering and overwhelming. It's so unbelievable you have to pinch yourself to realise it's happening, slap yourself to wake up from the trance it puts you in, and be kind to yourself to heal the pain it leaves you with.

What does love mean to you?

Love is a bond between two people. It's when you meet someone you connect with emotionally, psychologically and physically. The connection you experience with each other is one never experienced before, it's indescribable. It's like being connected by telephone wires because you always know what they're going to say before they've said it. When you're both in different cities it feels like you're in the same room together. Even if you meet each other late in life it will feel like you've known each other your entire life. It will feel natural, like it's meant to be, you were destined for each other.

There are different ways of falling in love, such as:

Head over heels

Being head over heels in love with someone is intense. It's the type of love which never goes away. It catches you when you least expect it and it turns your world upside down. The other person feels the same way about you as you do about them. It's when you meet someone you can't imagine not being in love with or who you can't stop thinking about.

Unrequited love

Unrequited love is painful. It's when the other person doesn't know you love them or they do but don't feel the same way about you. It can have all the same emotions as being head over heels in love. It can go on for months or even years.

Love is complicated and different for everyone. Some people have never been in love, some fall in love more than once or only once. Some people don't believe love exists. What does love mean to you? Feel free to share your ideas of what love is by commenting on this post.
