5 ways to unwind and de-stress during exam season
After a break over Christmas and New Year exam season can hit you like a tonne of bricks.
Whilst it's important to revise and feel prepared, it's vital to give yourself time to breathe and de-stress. Here are some suggestions of things to do to help you unwind during exam season.
1. Watch something
We're probably all guilty of watching Netflix stressfully (when we should be doing some work) but it is important to give yourself time to switch off. Watching something funny or light-hearted is a great way of distracting your mind for a period of time to recharge your batteries. Sit down and put on your favourite film or TV show for an hour to forget about revision and exams for a while.

Started this yesterday. Here’s to decreasing my anxiety and all the overthinking that I do that holds me back from so much. Each day is different, but basically asks you questions to help you practice a more peaceful life. I also started running again yesterday, so hopefully that will help to (as long as I stick with it again...) 💕👍🏻😊
Allow yourself time to do something for yourself, whether that be indulging in a hobby of yours, or even something as simple as a long bath or shower. It's important to look after yourself during exams; remember to eat properly, get enough sleep and move a bit. If your favourite thing to do is to snuggle on the sofa, hot drink in hand, and read—do it! Or if a pamper evening is more your thing then go for it. Take time out for yourself to do something you enjoy and look after you!
3. Cook something
Sometimes the perfect distraction is to try something completely different. Why don't you Google some recipes you've always wanted to try or bake something delicious. Having something to look forward to eating after a revision session can be a great source of motivation too!
Sleeping is possibly the ultimate way to forget about exams. We all love to do it yet it's often neglected during times of stress. Turn your phone off an hour before you sleep to give yourself the best chance of sleep and allow yourself enough time to feel well-rested and raring to go the next day.
Yes, these are stressful and important times in your life but there is so much more to you than exams. Remember to keep things in perspective to avoid spiralling into an exam-induced black hole.
There is more to life than exams and their results. Keep your focus but don't let it distract you from all aspects of life.
