Top vegan friendly spots in Birmingham

Vegan-friendly restaurants are becoming more common as we grow more aware of our choices.

While not everyone might want to push meat, dairy and fish aside to join the vegan community immediately, it can be a good idea to visit vegan restaurants to try out new things - they are often cheaper (because vegetables don't cost as much as other ingredients) and can make you feel healthier by giving you a fraction of your five-a-day in just one meal.

Not Dogs

Not Dogs is a restaurant based in the walkway between Grand Central and the Bullring, good old Link Street. They cater for both vegans and vegetarians, and their menu includes the Kickin' Kate Nacho Dog, the Queen B Burger, Not Dogs' Nuggets and Waffle Fries. For their full menu, visit their website or pop into the restaurant, located in the Bullring.

Warehouse Cafe

The Warehouse Cafe is definitely a place to try out. This organic restaurant serves vegan options as well as gluten-free choices, making it the ultimate healthy dinner destination. Their menu includes halloumi "fish" and chips, pineapple and coconut cakes and chocolate brownies. To find out more, go to their website or visit them in Digbeth.

Natural Healthy Foods

Natural Healthy Foods is a health food shop, as well as a restaurant - the perfect choice for when you need to grab something healthy to eat whilst shopping! Located in the city centre, there is no excuse not to visit Natural Healthy Foods when you're wanting to try something new. Serving food such as zucchini spaghetti with creamed porcini mushrooms and truffle oil, wakame glass noodle salad with avocado and wasabi dressing and spirulina cacao brownies, it sounds perfect for someone wanting to include superfoods within their diet. You can find them online or in the city centre.

Las Iguanas

If you have friends who just cannot stand the idea of giving up meat, Las Iguanas caters to everyone. It can be a great place to go before a big night out, especially because of their two for one cocktail/pitcher deal, which runs all day every day. Their vegan menu is pretty impressive; grab some nachos to start, and then choose fajitas, enchiladas or chilli for your main, and finish off with a mango sorbet or Tembleque. Find their full menu here or go check them out in The Arcadian.

The Stable

The Stable is a restaurant that caters to every vegan's needs, as well as meat eaters. Each city has their own personal menu, therefore you will hardly ever try the same thing twice! Their most famous vegan item on the menu is "The One Potato Two Potato" pizza, which is made up of herb-roasted potato, thyme-roasted sweet potato, Spanish onion, spinach, tomato sauce and Bute Island vegan mozzarella. All their vegan pizzas are the same price, £10.50 per individual pizza, which is cheaper than other alternatives on the menu. Find the full version of the menu here or check it out in Birmingham's city centre.

Cafe Soya

Cafe Soya is a Chinese restaurant which serves "exceptional food at a reasonable price", with a "huge range of vegetarian meals". While the website does state that they do serve vegetarian, with no mention of vegan, their menu is full of choices for everyone. Their Instagram, @cafesoyauk does mention vegan options, therefore, worry not! Ranging from veggie lemongrass chicken fried rice to your classic sweet and sour with a soy alternative. Find their menu here, but make sure to go and try it out in The Arcadian.

Handmade Burger Co

Typically associated with meat, the popular restaurant also caters for vegans and vegetarians. Known for their large burgers and aesthetic decor, there are a couple of locations in Birmingham. If the sound of Cajun vegetable and bean burger, or a sweet potato and bean burger makes your mouth water, click here to find their full menu, or visit them in Brindleyplace.
