Stock up your makeup bag these 9 items for under £10

As a student, you need to watch your budget.

So whilst it might be tempting to spend your entire student loan on makeup in Selfridges, this can't always be the case. A lot of the time drugstore makeup can be just as good—if not better— but for a fraction of the price. Here is a list of recommended items that you need to try, all for under £10.

L'Oreal True Match Foundation

This medium to full coverage foundation comes in 28 shades and has undertones ranging from warm, neutral, to cool—so there is definitely a shade out there for everyone. The consistency of this foundation is a bit thick, so if you're looking for a lighter coverage then this product may not be right for you, but if you're in need of a foundation with a great staying power you'll definitely want to try this one out. Alongside being super thick, it is also an oily foundation, so avoid this if you've got naturally oily skin!

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

This lightweight foundation provides you with a medium coverage which is perfect for an everyday look. It contains vitamins C, E and B5, which essentially wakes your skin up to provide an anti-fatigue effect. What else do you need on a cold winter's morning? It claims to last up to 16 hours, however, from experience, I would say it doesn't last any more than 12, but who would want to wear their foundation for that long anyway? The shade range isn't that great, as it only gives you nine shades to choose from, however, rumours say that they will be expanding the collection in the near future.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

This concealer is the holy grail for many beauty gurus, and for all the right reasons. It provides you with full coverage, and the products pink undertones mean that your dark circles will stay hidden for up to 16 hours. The colour range is small—as there are only four to choose from—however, with the amount of hype it is getting recently, I am sure they will continue to grow their shade range to match a wider range of skin tones.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer

This lightweight concealer contains tiny reflective elements which glow in the light to give off the illusion that you're wide awake. The formulation contains peptides and a vitamin moisturising complex which will nourish your dry under eyes during the cold weather. It's currently only available in four shades—which are all meant for lighter skin tones—because Rimmel themselves do not provide shades for various skin tones, so it's unlikely that they will release other shades anytime soon.

Soap & Glory Archery 2-in-1 Brow Filling Pencil & Brush

This is often described as a dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hills eyebrow pencil, and it's definitely true. The product comes with a spoolie brush to tame your eyebrows on one end and a retractable eyebrow pencil on the other side. It applies smoothly, allowing you to get super sharp edges, and stays on even in the rain (providing you don't rub at your brows, of course). There are only three shades available, however, this shouldn't be an issue because the depth of the colour depends on how hard you press against your skin, therefore you can achieve different outcomes with the same pencil.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

This translucent powder is the answer to all your prayers if you need something to keep your makeup in place to stop the shine throughout the day. This product does not look cakey on your skin, but it works by locking your foundation in place. A great tip is to apply this all over your face—even if you are not wearing foundation—to make your skin appear more matte without the additional coverage to go alongside it.

NYX Professional Makeup Setting Spray - Dewy Finish/Long Lasting

This small tube of setting spray goes a long way, that's for sure. It sets your makeup in place within minutes and leaves you with a dewy finish—perfect for those who don't want to look as matte as a piece of paper. The smell of this isn't the greatest, as it smells like pure alcohol, but it really does work.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Lash Multiplying Mascara

Once again, this is regarded to as the drugstore holy grail mascara. It separates, lengthens and adds volume to your lashes. It doesn't flake, doesn't bleed onto your under eye area, and is a great product overall. If you find that it's a bit too thick for you just add a couple of eye drops to the tube and shake it, this will change the consistency, lengthen the lifespan of the mascara and it will make it easier to apply.

NYX Professional Makeup Lip Lingerie Lipstick

This is a must-have for all you nude lipstick lovers out there. With 24 shades available, you're bound to find your perfect shade. The consistency can be a bit drying, but once it's on it's not going anywhere. If you hate having dry lips and visible lip lines underneath your lipstick, apply a pore filling primer to your lips before you apply the liquid lipstick. This will fill all your lines, and stop the liquid lipstick from feeling so dry.
