6 simple ways students can spice up their wardrobes

As winter approaches and you start to feel the cold, it's easy to choose an old woollen jumper over a more stylish outfit, especially when you need to be at university for a 9 am lecture.

During these colder months, we students tend to choose comfort over style, however, we intend to show you simple ways to spice up your wardrobe, whilst still keeping you prepared for the weather and those early mornings at university.

Our suggestions include smaller, more refined details, which can sound a bit boring, but when paired with the right shoes and accessories, these subtle pieces can make a big statement. Styling for the winter weather has never been easier: simply pair a jacket with an embroidered lapel over a cosy turtleneck jumpair, add some cullottes and finish with some patent shoes, and here's a style that's suitable for everyone.

Ruffle it up

From frilled shirts to ruffled skirts, this fashion statement is hitting the high street shops and people are loving it. This trend was once fashionable in the 1930’s bringing a hint of Latin flair to women’s clothing, and it's made a huge come-back. Whether you choose an outfit with just some small frills on the sleeve, or if you go crazy and wear a top covered with frills, ruffles and frills can be a perfect way to add something exciting to your look, whilst still keeping it looking smart and fashionable. You can find this trend in most high street shops, so when you’re next treating yourself to a new piece of clothing, choose the jumper with a frilled design to add a touch of fun to your wardrobe.

Embellishments for days

A simple sequin, an embroidered flower or an embellished pearl; fashion designers today are indulging in this trend and are embellishing everything in sight. Whether that includes an embroidered flower design on a black jumper, faux pearls on the shoulders of an unassuming denim jacket or a sequined collar on a plain blouse, these are ways that you can mix up your wardrobe and add some exciting elements to tired outfits. If you wanted a new pair of jeans for example, why not buy some sequin or embroidered ones to add a vintage feel to your everyday look? This embellished trend is great because even when paired with a simple outfit, they can add a touch of excitement to your get-up, especially if you didn’t want to go too crazy straight away.

Fantastic Florals

You might associate floral patterns with something that you'd only see your Grandma wearing, but in the past decade, florals have become more of a wardrobe necessity. Catering to a range of styles, a floral pattern can either resemble both an elegant or vintage look. This trend is set to be very popular this season. Pair a floral jumper or shirt with a simple coat to avoid patterns clashing and to emphasise the floral tones, and wear a floral embroidered jacket to add an extra element to your look.

Velvet…that’s all I need to say

From velvet blazers and jumpers to knee-high boots and accessories, it looks like designers have delved into the world of velvet this season. This year, designers have reworked this classic material to make it more glam than ever before. Velvet is on the rise and it's being seen paired with simple sets of clothing and accessories to help emphasise the material. Designers have even paired it with more velvet, because why not? Adding it to your winter wardrobe is easy and it can be a simple way to spice up your student wardrobe. You can do this with a top with a velvet graphic on it, a jumper with velvet sleeves or if you're feeling fancy, you could even opt for some velvet trousers.

A statement earring

They say that accessories can bring a whole outfit together so why aren’t you wearing any? Statement earrings are making a comeback to high street stores this season and can add a touch of class and an artistic feel to your outfit. Whether you want to try hoop earrings, tassel drop earrings, or ones with pompoms on them, paired with a simple jumper and jeans combo, these statement pieces of jewellery can easily add a whole new dynamic to your outfit.

C O S Y ⚡️ ❄️ #autumn

Another trend that seems to be re-emerging this season is faux fur. Although faux fur is a trend that not everyone will love, when it’s styled in small amounts it can be very subtle. You'll see small elements of faux-fur on sleeves, around the neckline and as a separate individual pattern on jumpers.
