REVIEW: Mahalia's latest album - 'Love and Compromise'
Leicester's R&B princess Mahalia has just released her second album, Love and Compromise.
Following the success of her debut album Remember Me all the way back in 2016, Love and Compromise's release has been very much longed for.
The artist shared a number of groovy and heartfelt singles throughout 2018 and at the start of this year.
"Compromise? What is a compromise? Compromising for what? Compromising for what reason?"
This is the Eartha Kitt quote that begins Mahlia's new album, featured on album opener "Hide Out".
The powerful quote wasn't just the 21-year-olds inspiration for this song alone but in fact, the entire album, Love and Compromise, took its name from the 1982 infamous interview.
'Hide Out' itself is a clean and simple, thought-provoking track. The melodies are beautiful and would get a room full of heads bobbing.
Pairing this particular quote and song together proves just how serious the singer is. They fit together perfectly since the story behind the track focuses on a relationship where she was giving more than she was getting back.
Since signing to record label, Atlantic Eight, at the young age of thirteen, the soulful singer has achieved amazing things. From supporting Jorja Smith on her 2017 UK tour to performing at Glastonbury this year, it's clear her journey is far from over.
The singer took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the album release:
It’s not even 10am and I’m bawwwwwling 😰😰😰 I have waited for this day to come for so long and now I’m completely lost for words. My debut album ‘love and compromise’ is out naaawwwww pic.twitter.com/oalGXinYA5

The success of Love and Compromise in such a short period of time left Mahlia feeling “overwhelmed”, she shared on the social media site.
Possibly my favourite song on the album—'Consistency'—had me dancing straight away. After falling in love with the jazz-like, soulful beat, the tune is a vocally dynamic artwork that drew me in from the first second.
Also up there in my Love and Compromise faves would have to be 'Square 1'. The final track reignites her signature R&B sound, bringing the album to an end beautifully.
Love and Compromise is an alluring album filled with intelligently written songs that come from the heart. It will have you itching to repeat it for days on end.
Gorgeous Mahalia will be back in the arms of adoring fans very soon, as her album tour will be coming to Europe and North America.
The album is availably available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music and Google Play. It is also ready to buy online at HMV.
