Exam season: deadline anxiety and how to overcome it
It's easy to feel overwhelmed with anxiety during exam season.
Whether you're scared about an upcoming exam and piled under mountains of revision, or starting to feel the impending doom of your next assignment deadline, it's easy to forget about why you're doing your degree while also neglecting your own self-care. Here are some of my favourite ways to overcome stress this semester.
Watch your favourite YouTubers
This is something I find so easy to do in-between revision breaks. My favourite YouTubers are Jen Brett —who is such a positive and motivational person to listen to—and brummymummyof2, a family vlogger who reminds me of why it's important to work hard to have the future I want (she's also incredibly funny and positive).
Listen to your favourite songs
I have made several positive playlists on Spotify to help improve my moods, why don't you do the same? I have playlists full of empowering women, as well as upbeat songs to put me in a good mood. One of my favourite feel-good songs at the minute is Ring Ring by Jax Jones and Mabel.
Put your favourite film on in the background
I am embarrassed to say I recently watched The Greatest Showman twice in a row the other day. It's easy to put on a film you've watched over and over already so it doesn't distract you too much but adds something lighthearted to your environment. Try putting on a musical in the background as the songs will put you in a good mood.
Have a pamper session
This is one of my favourite things to do when I'm feeling the pressure. I run myself a bubble bath and put on a face and hair mask while listening to some relaxing music. It always makes me feel so much better once I've got out and got myself ready for an early night, or to get on with my work while I feel peaceful.
Ask for help
If you're struggling with your mental health this exam season—or just need help with questions you may have about managing your work—don't be afraid to contact your university. There will be lots of mental health resources available to you through your university, or resources online such as Mind UK and Moodzone.
I hope these tips can you relax during the exam season. Remember, you can only do your best and that is more than enough, so don't be too tough on yourself.
