Dalston Superstore A lively venue for the LGBTQI+ community of Dalston
Dalston Superstore on Kingsland High Street in east London isn’t just for people from the LGBTQI+ community.
Founded in 2009, Dalston Superstore is a popular gay nightclub where everybody is welcome.
The club is well-known on the east London party scene, and features a calendar chock-full of events.
Daniel Cheney, 32, manager of Dalston Superstore says: “We celebrated our 9th birthday a few days ago. We are important for the local LGBT community and a culture hub in east London, and tonight we have got Static, Nadia Ksaiba, local DJ and some guests.”
Amy Church, 22, a student from London and a regular at the Dalston nightclub says: “I am straight but I have been coming to Dalston Superstore for years. I really like the atmosphere here. It’s a great place to be.”
The club is popular with a large and diverse LGBT crowd, and DJs, well known but mostly local who keep the customers entertained from Wednesday through to Sunday. They can groove and grind to anything from Italo and disco at Discosodoma, to ’90s R&B and hip-hop at Put It in Your Mouth.
A variety of drinks are served in the bar such as Frontier, Brooklyn Lager, Kirin Ichiban, Guinness and Estrella, and classic cocktails.
The club is also known for selling tasty food and their seasonal menu features dishes such as pan-fried king prawns served with a lime, tomato and chilli, minute steak buns and chicken burgers.
“I really enjoy working at Dalston Superstore,” says a smiling Joe Holloway, 24, a barmaid at Dalston. “It’s a great outlet for queers and everyone else, I suppose. Everybody is invited here.”
They even have drink offers for students and queer art exhibitions.
One of the regular performers at Dalston Superstore, Nadia Ksaiba is known for her highly personalised DJing skills. Music has always been her passion and she has played guitar and drums as a child and worked in record shops from the age of fourteen.
Nadia also presents the popular fortnightly show Rhythm Connection on London’s critically acclaimed NTS Radio alongside Dan Beaumont with guests including Optimo, DJ Harvey, Xpress 2 and Daniel Avery.
