Cheap meal ideas to help you to stay healthy when you're really busy

If you're sick of eating out or eating pot noodles, try something different and go down the healthier route.

You can still eat healthy food when you're on a low budget. Instead of getting takeaways on Uber Eats, go to your local supermarket and get a week’s worth of grocery shopping. Here are a few meal ideas to help you make better decisions when it comes to food.

Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Instead of skipping breakfast, set your alarm a little bit earlier, you might even be able to focus on your 9 am lectures with a little bit of food in your stomach.

Try having a spinach and tomato omelette with some strawberries on the side. Eggs are very high in protein and will give you lots of energy to start your day. Add a few tomatoes to add flavour and don’t forget one of your five a day, strawberries.

Lunch

Meal prepping is a really good idea if you have a really busy schedule. Living as a student can be hard at times due to busy days, lots of assignments and long hours of lectures. Planning your meals can really help you throughout the week and makes sure you’re not skipping meals.

Lots of meals include chicken as the main ingredient, which can get quite boring. Switching it to turkey can help change things up. If meal prepping isn't your thing, wraps are really easy to make and can be very versatile, just add your favourite sandwich fillings and you're good to go.

QUICK AND EASY DINNER! This meal was made super last minute and literally took me 15 minutes tops! ➡️ Season chicken tenders with salt, pepper, garlic powder and cajun seasoning. Grill for a couple minutes in each side or until cooked through ➡️ Steam broccoli and season with salt and pepper ➡️INSTANT BROWN RICE FROM @traderjoeslist It is found in the frozen section! you just microwave it for 3 minutes and it’s cooked perfectly 🙂 I added 1 tbs of lime juice, 1 tbs of lemon juice and about 1/4 cup of chopped cilantro! ➡️GUAC: smash up 4 avocados. Add the juice of one lime, 1-2 tbs of lemon juice, salt, 1/4 cup of cilantro and 1/4 cup of chopped red onions! You can alter the recipe to your tasting 🙂 Super quick and DELICIOUS dinner for those days when you don’t have much time ?

End the day with a quick and easy dinner, which takes around 15 minutes to cook. Get some chicken breasts and season with whatever seasoning you like and grill for a couple of minutes. While the chicken is cooking, steam the broccoli and season with salt and pepper. To same time and instead of waiting, 10 minutes for your rice to cook, grab some microwavable rice—which only takes two minutes to cook—and add it to the side of your dish once the chicken and broccoli is cooked. Lastly, for the side, smash-up around four avocados, squeeze on lime or lemon, sprinkle on some salt and one cup of chopped red onions to make some guacamole. This is a really filling and healthy meal and it doesn't take too long to prepare!

Snack ideas

Instead of snacking on crisps and chocolate, try to eat things like fruit, nuts or protein bars. If you’re snacking on the wrong foods, over time, you'll start to realise that it adds on additional unwanted weight which leaves you with stubborn belly fat. Snack on healthier options like fruits and make sure you’re drinking plenty of water throughout the day to keep you hydrated.
