6 relaxation techniques for stressed students
Every student gets stressed, and sometimes we need to realise that we just need to take a step back.
Inhale for four seconds, then hold your breath for four seconds. Now exhale for four counts and repeat this three times. This technique allows your brain to get the extra oxygen it needs to function properly and will help you to feel less stressed.
2. Take a shower
Whilst in the shower visualise washing away all of your stress and anxiety. Imagining it all going down the drain can help you feel lighter and more relaxed. Also, if you put clean clothes on after the shower you'll feel like you’re starting your day all over again.
3. Lay on the floor, close to the wall, and fling your legs up the wall
This position is beneficial for your heart because it allows it to rest due to not having to pump as much blood around, leaving you feeling peaceful and relaxed. Do this for five minutes, focusing on your breathing and nothing else.
4. Drink a cold glass of water
Often when you’re stressed, you forget to drink water. 85% of your brain is made up of water, so it’s vital to keep it hydrated.
5. Go for a walk.
Or, if you can’t bear the thought of going outside—because you’re up at 3 am and the thought of leaving your room is slightly terrifying—go and open your window as wide as you can to allow fresh air to flow in.
Students lives are very stressful with the ton of assignments that they have to do each semester. If you find yourself procrastinating, or just typing anything just to get your word count up, go and take some time to draw. Either grab a spare piece of paper, and press the pen against the paper as hard as you can, and draw whatever you want.
