5 ways you can make sure you get more sleep
As a student, it can be difficult to maintain a good sleeping schedule.
Not getting enough rest is a common complaint we all hear from fellow students. It can be hard to balance university responsibilities, a social life and everything else. Sleep is important, and not getting enough can make you seriously stressed or could even make you ill. Here are five tips to help you improve your sleeping pattern:
1. Switch your phone off
Mobile phones are a huge distraction already and might be stopping you from getting a good night of sleep. How many of us have checked Instagram before bed for five minutes, and then two hours later you find yourself watching cat videos on YouTube? It is an easy trap to fall into so make sure that you switch your phone off before bed!
2. Plan your day
Aim to get your work done before bedtime, this way you can sleep well knowing that you#ve achieved everything you wanted to get done for the day. If you plan to go to sleep at a certain time you are more likely to get a good rest.
3. Clean your room
Make sure that your bedroom is tidy, clean and comfortable so that you can sleep peacefully. Fresh clean blankets and comfortable pillows will make your bed more appealing and your sleep more pleasant.
Reading, in general, is a great habit to have. Reading before bed could help you relax significantly as long as the reading material is not too overwhelming.
Have you ever got into bed and realised that you are just not that tired? It is a good idea to dedicate 30 minutes a day to exercise to make sure that you are tired and ready for bed in the evening. You could look into getting a gym membership, but to save costs you could go running or even invest in a workout DVD is a more affordable alternative.
