5 newly released films that you need to watch this winter

2018 has been a great year for Hollywood and Bollywood/Lollywood films with some big releases hitting theatres and creating new Box Office records.

Being a film fanatic, I love experiencing the magic of the big screen by watching all the latest flicks—going to the cinema is one of my favourite pastimes.

1. Avengers: Infinity War

I loved the previous Avengers films and this one didn’t disappoint. The third installment contains larger than life action sequences and thrills showing Marvel Superheroes in all their glory in scenes that are nothing less than epic. Made on a staggering budget of over $300 million, it earned more than $2 billion worldwide and became one of the highest grossing movies of 2018.

Rating: 3 stars out of 5.
2. The Nun

The Nun is a horror film about a young nun who travels to Romania to investigate the suicide of a nun in an abbey. The film has its moments, but it is definitely not that frightening. But, thanks to Corin Hardy’s brilliant direction there are enough twists and turns in the movie to keep you on the edge of your seat right until the end. The scenes shot in the vicinity of the abbey are well-executed and the plot is compelling and cleverly-written. All in all, a spooktacular film.

3. Halloween

Michael Myers is back in this slasher genre film that is a sequel to the 1978 film Halloween. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is gearing up to confront Myers who is on the loose killing several people in the process. It is Halloween night and Michael comes to Haddonfield, in Illinois, and murders victims in bone-chilling scenes before heading towards the home of Laurie. He attacks Laurie knocking her unconscious and makes his way to the basement where her daughter Karen and granddaughter Andi are hiding. Laurie regains consciousness and she and Karen trap Myers in the basement before setting the house on fire. A sequel that’s well worth the wait.

Rating: 4 stars out of 5.
4. Mission Impossible: Fallout

Tom Cruise and Henry Cavill star in Fallout, the newest installment in the Mission Impossible series. Set in Paris, London and Kashmir (parts of which are controlled by China, India and Pakistan) this film is a visual spectacle packed with breathtaking fighting sequences and jaw-dropping stunts. Tom Cruise is top-notch as Ethan Hunt and Henry Cavill’s addition to the movie is the icing on the cake.

Rating: 4.5 stars out of 5.
5. Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2

Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 (You Won’t Come Again 2) is a Pakistani romantic comedy film comprising of an ensemble of incredibly catchy and upbeat numbers. Hollywood, Lollywood and Bollywood movies contain plenty of songs and dance and this one is no different. JPNA 2 is big-time entertainment filled with oodles of fun and laughter. This is cinema at its finest!
