Every Instagram a University of Edinburgh student should post
You’re lying just a little bit if part of the reason you went to Edinburgh Uni wasn’t because it’s hugely Instagrammable.
As one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the country, you need to make the most of your time there. And by making the most of your time, we mean heading to all the main cultural spots in Edinburgh, snapping away and posting on Instagram. Because were you even there if you didn’t Instagram it? Here’s your lowdown on the most Instagrammable spots in Scotland’s capital:
When you think of Edinburgh, what comes to mind? Chances are, it’s the iconic castle. Sat up on a hill, it majestically oversees Edinburgh’s happenings. A view in itself, sometimes what you want is a pic of the castle, rather than what you can see from it. A city skyline pic to be proud of, the castle sits proudly behind the adorable winding streets. And if you’re feeling super artsy and are in need of those extra likes, maybe reflect the castle off a puddle on the ground, because that’s #edgy.

Next stop Edinburgh 🚂 This weekend I'm heading up to Edinburgh for the fourth time this year (benefits of having a sister living up there!) – on the agenda are Christmas markets, light shows at the Botanic Gardens and as ever a few cocktail tastings. What else shouldn't I miss in Edinburgh?
“But Edinburgh is surrounded by hills, so why this one?” I hear you ask. The reason why? Because it requires minimal effort. You could head up Arthur’s Seat, but you’d be half dead from the walk by the time you reach the top and there’d definitely be no way in hell a selfie with the view would be all that attractive. With Calton Hill, you can save the red face and sweat by snapping away from a slightly smaller height. From the top, you can see the Forth Road Bridge, look down towards Princes Street and both the castle and Arthur’s Seat are visible from here.
If people watching is your thang, you can head to Victoria Street to catch a few snaps of the public milling about their day. An adorably coloured street (almost as adorbs as Balamory), Victoria Street is lined with pretty boutique shops and yummy independent cafes. A spot of shopping and eating, whilst Instagramming? That sounds like the perfect lazy weekend day.
National Museum of Scotland
This one’s a good one for those skint on a student budget (aka all of us). The National Museum of Scotland is not only a cheap and educational day out, but it provides you with many an Insta snap on every floor. On the ground floor, there’s a universe exhibition, where you can pose for galactic pics. You can even head to the roof terrace, which provides amazing views.
Although it’s a wee trek, Arthur’s Seat is an unmissable photo opp in Edinburgh. To be a little more edgy with your snap though, head through Holyrood Park on your way up and snap the extinct volcano from the base upwards.
So, get snapping and document your Edinburgh mems now!
